High on Fire is a Grammy Award-winning American heavy metal band formed in Oakland, California, in 1998. The brainchild of guitarist and vocalist Matt Pike — also known for his work with legendary stoner metal band Sleep — High on Fire delivers a relentless fusion of sludge, doom, and thrash, fueled by thunderous riffs, primal drumming, and a raw, aggressive energy that’s become their signature.
Rising from the underground with their debut The Art of Self Defense (2000), the band gained momentum with a series of critically acclaimed releases including Surrounded by Thieves (2002), Blessed Black Wings (2005), and Death Is This Communion (2007), all of which showcased their evolution into one of the most respected and uncompromising forces in modern metal.
In 2019, High on Fire earned the Best Metal Performance Grammy for the pummeling track “Electric Messiah,” further cementing their legacy. Known for their blistering live performances and Pike’s grizzled vocals and war-hammer guitar tone, the band continues to push boundaries and blaze trails with every release.
With over two decades of sonic warfare behind them and no signs of slowing down, High on Fire remains a vital and ferocious presence in the heavy music world.
